Piers Anthony turned 92 last week. He's currently writing Xanth 53, and he has several finished Xanth novels stacked in a queue waiting on a publication slot.
Robert Jordan planned 3 books. He finished 12 before cardiac amyloidosis killed him in 2007 at 58, and Brandon Sanderson had to build the last 3 out of Jordan's notes.
Two of the longest runs in fantasy, and they broke in opposite directions.
Xanth started in 1977 and never stopped, partly because Anthony has said the Xanth books are just about all publishers want from him anymore. So he keeps writing them.…
